DECEMBER The first snow has fallen on Paiko and Goumenissa!. The streets are almost never closed and the snow creates a beautiful landscape of mountains and the villages. This is a time to gather at a tavern with a fireplace and wood stove to enjoy the local cuisine at prices and quality ... from the past! JANUARY The first month of the year brings all the active clubs in the region to organize a gathering on the occasion of 'pita cutting' which concludes with food and dancing. The weather is humid and clear, the moon low and walking these picturesque streets of the city gives you a sense of.... health and strength! FEBRUARY The memory of "Saint Trifon," the patron saint of winegrowers, is celebrated in Goumenissa on February 1st with "Kourbani," which includes the sacrifice of a male calf. The priest blesses the meat and it is cooked on site then distributed throughout the community, accompanied by an abundant amount dry wines, the Brass Bands of Goumenissa and many folk dances. |
